Steven Hassel obtained his B.Com (Acc) from the University of South Africa in 1981 and followed this with a M.B.A. from the University of Cape Town in 1985. In 1997 he obtained the advance certificate in Shopping Centre Leadership through the University of Pretoria. He also qualified as an Estate Agent (RICS equivalent) in 1985.
Steven’s experience started in 1976 as Financial Accountant for Tollgate Holdings whose subsidiaries include Public Transportation, Life Insurance, Property Development and Motor Engineering. He joined the Barlow Rand Group in 1981 as Management Accountant in the Manufacturing and Building Supply Division. He moved to Monex Development in 1985, the developers of Tyger Valley Centre, as Assistant General Manager. In 1986 he joined forces with Trevor Blow and formed Lordland Property Holdings which took over the management and development of Tyger Valley Centre, the re-development of the Blue Route Centre and the « Neelsie » Student Centre. In 1989 Lordland Property Holdings was appointed as Core Consultants for the Victoria & Alfred Waterfrontin Cape Town and made Managing Agents in 1992 and continue to hold this appointment until 2008.
Steven has been active now for several years in both the full price and factory outlet centre formats. These projects have been primarily in Europe with an emphasis on the eastern part with Poland, Romania and Ukraine. Current projects under review are in Northern Ireland and Portugal.
The growth and success of Lordland since 1986 is in no short measure due to Steven’s financial expertise and experience and the projects in which Lordland has been involved.
Steven has been based in London since 1997 where he was the responsible partner in the joint venture project Gunwharf Quays with the Berkeley Group plc.
Steven formed Lordland International in 1996 and started operating independently in the UK during 2002.
